My interest in why people 'do what they do' or behave in the ways they do began at an early age. I have followed this interest throughout both my formal and informal education.
I earned my undergraduate degree at Indiana University, Bloomington where I studied education as well as human development and family studies, earning her a Bachelor of Science in Education, with a concentration in Human Development and Family Studies.
With an ever-growing interest in human development and potential, I continued my education obtaining both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from the American Psychological Association (APA) approved program at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. The Illinois School of Professional Psychology was the historical first professional psychology school of its time emphasizing clinical practice and application of psychology taught by clinicians with a rich tradition in process-oriented psychotherapy treatment.
Thus, my training focused on the application of knowledge to practice, primarily in the process-oriented traditions. My training at The Carl Rogers Institute for Client Centered Psychotherapy provided me the foundation for practicing unconditional positive regard and honing empathy for the client’s position, while attuning herself to the client’s plight. Additionally, I trained with The Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute (formerly the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis), completing a one-year fellowship there as I also did with the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. These experiences have been important in my capacity as a psychologist in listening to ‘the unconscious’ of the patient.
I have over a decade of experience working in various mental health settings ranging from community mental health centers, low-income housing facilities, medical practices, outpatient mental health clinics, reduced-fee clinics, schools, and private practice settings.
I have also presented to national and international audiences research, including my research, related to the process and encounter of psychotherapeutic work. Additionally, I received an award for this research for its contribution to integral theory and integral psychotherapy, and thus, it's implications to integral psychotherapy practice.
I strongly value and am committed to life-long learning, individually and within community. I am a clinical associate faculty member at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (CCP) where I am a mentor in CCP's Fellowship Program. I also served on the Board at CCP as a representative for the psychoanalytic psychotherapy cohort and was involved in the establishment of consultation groups as a member of the CCP Programing Committee.
My own personal and professional development, which includes doing my own ‘inner work’, contributes to fine-tuning my capacities as an instrument to the unfolding process in the psychotherapeutic encounter. I have interest in the areas of consciousness studies, depth psychology, and the wisdom traditions, as well as intergenerational family dynamics, interpersonal neurobiology, and group dynamics. I have been in dialogue and relationship with various meditative, contemplative, and reflective practices for the last 18 years, and am fascinated by the merger of the inner and outer arts and sciences.
I adhere to the ethical guidelines set forth by the American Psychological Association and The American Counseling Association and focus on quality of care.
